Alright, lets try this again.
After a slight hiccup that pushed back Nissan’s internal target of having orders open on Friday, August 27th, with Nissan telling their dealers they wanted to make sure the system would run perfectly, the day for order your own 2011 Nissan LEAF, a fully electric car, has come…well, for about 200 lucky consumers anyway. (unofficially)
For many it represents a lifelong dream of driving a car completely powered by electricity, for others it is just the next cool thing to come along; but regardless of the personal motivation to buy, it represents the nation’s first step into the electrification of the automobile, and possibly the beginning of the end on the reliance on oil to power our transportation needs.
So how will the order process go? Will it be a flawless launch? Will dealer promises of hundreds to thousands of dollars off the MSRP really translate when the quotes go out?
Only time will tell, but Nissan themselves spoke to us to reassure the community that they are ” doing everything we can to insure fantastic ordering experience.” /here’s hoping

My dashboard changed but no e-mail from Nissan. Actually, I am glad I am not in the first 200 and hopefully we will benefit from the first 200’s experience.

I am very happy. I.just finished doing my request a quote, no hang-ups at all. I also can confirm you can switch dealers in the queue for out of state George.
Now I am waiting on my dealer to get back to me. When you place a request Nissan does do a confirmation straight back that your Nissan dealer will get back to you by the end of the day.

Random Update
It looks like it is lockout out at the moment, even for people who say they got in and got a RAQ out. It may be a case of the system default opened at 12:01am and Nissan shut it back down (maybe because it was late and they could not handle it or something), but apparently some people got in (counting Bill who posted here, we have 4 reports of this total)…or something like that. Who knows.
I don’t know if this means that the ‘glitchy’ orders are still good, or that they actually got a order submitted and to the dealer, or maybe they will have to do the whole thing over. Who knows #2.
The word unofficially is that the system is supposed to be open by 2PM EST. But really, who knows #3. We’ll keep you posted…I know that.

I read an interesting article at ABG today about customers complaining and possible not ordering a Leaf because of outragious quotes for home charging installs. Nissan may need to step in and do something about this process, so people don’t back out because of greedy installers.

Historic day. May not be in the history books but it’s part of the process…the change. Wonder what history will call the change from propulsion by gas. Maybe in fifty years it won’t even be noticed. Maybe it will just be cars vs all those dumb old people that used to drive cars that made pollution.

Checked my dashboard, RAQ was there! Filled it out.
Contacted dealer then waited 10 minutes on hold before I got to talk about my order. Went thru it together, he submitted it. I received it and approved.

I just returned home from work about a hour ago and had the email waiting. Filled it all out & the dealer got a hold of me quickly. Got about $700 off the msrp in total.
Dealer told me that I will get the car in decemeber & I asked him if because I just finished the quote so much later in the day than everyone else would I be shipped later & he said all august orders will be filled at the same time.

Just talked with Jon S. over at Rairdon Nissan of Auburn. Got my quote for $100 under invoice. Nissan sent the email, but still waiting on their website to catch-up. Jon’s made it pretty easy and even included shipping since I am within the state. He’s also the only dealer that has answered my emails. And he’s done so quickly. Just hope Nissan’s website will stop showing me the hour glass soon.

There is trouble at the dealer end (or Nissan’s end if you like), and have reset their servers. That is if you consider trouble to be releasing some of the September orders. My contempt for August people just went waaaay down.

Did the RAQ with the Fontana folks. Simple process although the tab for paying for the AV home charging station by credit card was confusing (got their over-priced assessment, not going that way). BTW, like a lot of folks I was able to do the RAQ before the email showed up (by about 2.5 hours). Damn, now I have to find something else to obsess over for the next 3 months.

Got email at 11:37 am (pacific). Got on site and added quick charger, floor mats and cargo organizer. Submitted spec at 11:45am. Dealer contacted me by phone and returned quote immediately. Accepted offer of $1000 off msrp at 11:58am.
