The all-electric Nissan LEAF made its way to Central Pennsylvania earlier this month.

Angela and Chuck Bateman, residents of the Mechanicsburg area, became the first owners of a Nissan LEAF in central Pennsylvania, report Cumberlink.com.

The Bateman family’s decision to purchase a Nissan LEAF vehicle was driven by economics and a concern for the environment.

“Reducing our carbon footprint, that’s the big thing,” said Angela Bateman.

Chuck Bateman added, “The higher the gas price goes, that definitely made a big difference. We’re trading in a gas guzzling minivan.” He continued, “And no dependence on oil of any kind, foreign or domestic.”

Brenner Nissan’s LEAF Specialist, Mike Ashworth, was surprised by the LEAF’s appearance when it arrived at the Pennsylvania dealership. “It took me by surprise,” said Ashworth. “I was expecting something frumpy and it turned out to be something very spectacular.”

Even though The Batemans are happy to have a Nissan LEAF, they only plan to use the vehicle for local trips. For longer trips and vacations, the pair plan to use their hybrid vehicle. “We looked at a lot of hybrids too, before we decided on the LEAF. Economically it’s a better deal all around, “said Angela.

Overall, Chuck and Angela Bateman are “beyond excited” to be a part of the Nissan LEAF family.
